Lucerne, Switzerland
My son and his family took me on a European road trip through 9 European countries, including Switzerland in May of 2024. One of the places we visited in Switzerland was Lucerne.
Lion Monument

The Lion Monument, or Lion of Lucerne, is carved in the rock of the mountain and was made in 1821. It commemorates Swiss guardsmen who were killed in battle |

The duck doesn't seem to mind how green the water is in the pond |
 |
Notice the rock cut-out is shaped like a pig, with snout and ears. It is a mystery why this came to be. |
Chapel Bridge, or Kapellbrucke
.JPG) |
The Chapel Bridge is the oldest wood-covered bridge in Europe and was built in the 17th century. It is named after St. Peter's Chapel, which is nearby. |

There used to be many old paintings on the interior of the bridge but they were destroyed, along with part of the bridge, in a fire in 1993. |
.JPG) |
It is the world's oldest surviving truss bridge. |

The bridge spans the river Reuss diagonally |

Exploring Lucerne

The castle on the mountain is Chateau Gutsch, and is actually a hotel that was built in the 1800's |
