Dorset, England near Durdle Door

Bat's Hole is in Bat's Head in Dorset, England along the same beach as the famous Durdle Door.  I didn't know this small arch was there until I arrived at Durdle Door and happened to see it far off on the right.

My husband and I tried to hike to the tiny arch, but the tide was high and we weren't sure how deep it was, so we gave up partway there.

To reach Bat's Hole, follow directions for Durdle Door, park in the Durdle Door parking, and hike down the steep steps (less than half a mile) to the beach.  You'll see Durdle Door on the left and on the far right you'll see Bat's Hole.  When the tide is lower, perhaps you can get inside the small arch.

It appears that the arch began as a cave and eventually the water eroded it into an arch

My husband and I tried to get around each of these edges and wade through the water to Bat's Hole, but we got to a point where we didn't dare to go any further.

From this vantage point I wondered if my eyes were playing tricks on me, or if that could really be a small arch.

I was very disappointed after leaving Durdle Door and Bat's Hole to learn that there was another arch very close by -- Stair Hole Arch.  It is only a 30 minute walk or 7 minute drive from Durdle Door!  This means that I need to go back again!  You can read about my visit to Durdle Door here:
