Strasbourg, France

Strasbourg, France

My son and his family brought me on a European road trip that included 9 countries.  Near the end of our road trip we stopped in Strasbourg, France.  We visited the Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg, went shopping, ate crepes, and listened to street performers.  France is generally not my favorite country to visit, but I did really love Strasbourg!

The Strasbourg Cathedral

The Cathedral of our Lady of Strasbourg is a Catholic Church that was completed in 1439, taking more than 400 years to complete!  It is 466 feet tall and for about 200 years, until 1874, it was the world's tallest building.  Today it is the sixth tallest church in the world.

As we walked down the road towards the cathedral, the monstrous, beautiful building came into sight quickly.  It was surrounded by outdoor cafes and shops.  A man was playing the violin outside.  It was a magical feeling just being there in this charming city.

The official website for the Strasbourg Cathedral is here:  Cathedral of Our Lady, Strasbourg

This two-story merry-go-round was really fun for my grandsons, and is located very close to the Cathedral.  This carousel has been around for 30 years.

Exploring Strasbourg

I enjoyed shopping at all the different shops near the Cathedral, and eating crepes at one of the outdoor cafes.  I also loved listening to the man performing the violin, because my daughters and I play the violin and I recognized many of the pieces that he played.

We had some delicious crepes from La Cigogne Crepes Bar
