Liechtenstein Gorge, or Liechtensteinklamm
Despite its name, this gorge is not located in the country of Liechtenstein, but in Austria. It is about an hour from Salzburg. This is a spectacular gorge hike! In May of 2024 I went on a European road trip with my son and his family to 9 European countries, including Austria. On our way through Austria we hiked the Liechtenstein Gorge.
One thing that I really love about Europe is that nature is so important to them that they create ways to bring people closer to it, to be able to see and enjoy the beauty of nature. It seems that in the United States too often we make nature inaccessible to about 99% of the population. But in Europe they install bridges, walkways, cable cars, lifts, tunnels, stairs, etc., to make beautiful nature accessible to almost everyone. Without the walkways installed on one side of this gorge, I would never have been able to enjoy its beauty! We hiked along a wooden walkway, across bridges, and both down & up a spiral staircase which resembles a helix. All the way we enjoyed the beauty of the river below and the stunning canyon, multiple waterfalls, and especially the Liechtenstein Waterfall at the end.
