Avebury Henge & Stone Circles
All my life I've been pretty obsessed with Stonehenge. When we went on a road trip around England in November of 2024, I was very excited to finally get to visit Stonehenge. The one down-side was that Stonehenge is all roped off, and while you can see it pretty close-up, you can't walk through it and stand inside it. I was thrilled to learn about a similar stone circle -- Avebury Henge. Avebury Henge is only a 40 minute drive from Stonehenge. If you're going to see Stonehenge, and want to be able to get more up-close-and-personal to the stone circles, definitely add Avebury Henge to your trip route!

Walking through the stone circles is free. We were able to park very close by at their official parking lot, which charged a small fee, and just walk to the circles. We also ate lunch in their cafeteria and did some shopping in the gift shop.
They are located at Avebury, Marlborough, Wiltshire, SN8 IRF. Avebury is a henge monument that was built about 2850 BC. It is a ceremonial site of Neolithic Britain, just like Stonehenge. The building and use of the monuments are unknown, although some believe it was built as a sort of theater to watch ceremonial rites.
