Piazza Colonna & Column of Marcus Aurelius


The Column of Marcus Aurelius stands in Piazza Colonna - 367 feet tall.  It was created to honor the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius and was completed about 193 AD.  The 21 spirals tell the story of the emperor's campaigns against the Germanic and Sarmatian tribes. You can find Piazza Colonna here:

Close to Piazza Colonna is the Obelisk of Montecitorio, which was brought from Egypt in 10 BC.  It is 71 feet high.  It is also known as Solare.  It is located in Piazza di Monte Citorio.

Places to Eat Near Piazza Colonna

We were walking around Rome and decided to break for a bite to eat.  We tried out the Pizzeria Gourmet.  It was affordable and unique compared to most of the Italian food we had been eating thus far on our trip.  Its google maps location is here:
