Notre Dame de Paris

Notre Dame de Paris

Notre Dame de Paris may be the most famous church in the world.  Construction originally began in 1163 and was finished almost a century later in 1260.  In 2019 the Cathedral was destroyed in a fire, and wasn't reopened again until the very end of 2024.  My daughter and I visited Notre Dame in March of 2025 and were lucky enough to go inside.

To make a reservation to enter the cathedral, you have to go on the official ticket website at midnight a couple days before you want to visit.  I was already in the queue at about fifteen minutes before midnight and then right at midnight on March 19th, the day opened for tickets for March 22nd.  I immediately started ordering my tickets for my desired time slot.  By the time I got to the end of my reservation, my time slot was already full and it bumped me back to the beginning.  Hundreds of people must have also been waiting for midnight to reserve their tickets.  Luckily, I was able to get the next time slot before it also sold out.  If you were to look in the middle of the day, I would suspect that every available day is already sold out.  It is possible to stand in line and visit Notre Dame without a reservation, but when we arrived, the line was incredibly long, and I have no idea how long it would have taken to just stand in the line and wait.  I was very grateful that we'd gotten a reservation!

The tickets are free -- only the reservation is needed.  On weekdays Notre Dame is open from 7:50 am until 7:00 pm.  On weekends it is open from 8:15 am until 7:30 p.m. The address of Notre Dame is:
6 Parvis Notre Dame - Pl. Jean-Paul II 75004 Paris.  Their official website is here:

Virgin of Paris, or Virgin of the Pillar, brought to Notre Dame in 1818.  The statue was returned to Notre Dame in November of 2024 after being stored near the Louvre following the 2019 fire.

Construction continues on the cathedral, even though it is now open to the public

On the left in this photo you can see the Crown of Thorns, which many believe is the same crown of thorns worn by Jesus during his crucifixion.  There was a program going on while we were in Notre Dame, so we were not able to get closer to the Crown of Thorns.  This photo was taken from very far away.
