Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy

Uffizi Gallery

Here is the official website of the Uffizi Gallery:  Uffizi Gallery  A regular ticket to the gallery costs 25 euro, but you can also purchase combinations, including the Vasari Corridor. The Vasari Corridor wasn't open on the days that we've visited Florence, but I am determined to be able to walk through it someday.  It is a corridor that connects the Uffizi Gallery with the Boboli Gardens.  It goes above Ponte Vecchio.  You can purchase tickets to visit the Vasari Corridor on Friday evenings.  Keep in mind that the Uffizi Gallery is closed every Monday.  Tuesday through Sunday it is open from 8:15 a.m. to 6:50 p.m.

The Uffizi building was constructed in 1560.  It houses a variety of works of art, from sculptures to drawings and prints to paintings.  Your tour begins on the second floor of the Uffizi, which is really the third floor because the ground floor is labeled floor 0.  The most famous masterpieces are on the 2nd, or top floor.  Works by Michelangelo, da Vinci, and Botticelli. The first floor houses works by Spanish, Dutch, and French painters.  The ground floor is mostly just offices and orientation areas.

The Uffizi Gallery is located right next to the Arno River, and a short walk from the Palazzo Vecchio. It is a 13 minute walk from the Accademia Museum, which houses the famous David, so take that into account if you buy combination tickets of the Uffizi and Accademia Museums.
