Santa Reparata at Piazza del Duomo
Santa Reparata is named after Saint Reparata, one of the founders of Florence and also a virgin martyr. Santa Reparata was the original cathedral in Florence, and the current Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was built over it. The dating of the Santa Reparata is not conclusive, but it is generally believed that it dates back to the 4th century. Excavation took place beginning in 1965.
The Reparata is part of the Piazza del Duomo complex. the official website to purchase tickets to climb the Duomo and visit other sites on Piazza del Duomo is here: Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore
Hours for the Piazza del Duomo:
Dome: 8:15 a.m. -- 6:45 p.m.
Giotto's bell tower: 8:15 a.m. -- 6:45 p.m.
Baptistery: 8:30 a.m. -- 7:30 p.m.
Duomo Museum: 8:30 a.m. -- 6:00 p.m.
Basilica of Santa Reparata: 10:45 a.m. -- 4 p.m.
Cathedral: 10:15 a.m. -- 3:45 p.m.
Every first Tuesday of the month the museum is closed. I very highly recommend purchasing a Brunelleschi pass because it includes access to everything, including climbing the dome. It costs 30 euro. We scheduled our dome climb first thing in the morning and then visited all of the rest of the sites after that, and we still had plenty of time to see other things in Florence afterwards.
The google maps location of the Santa Reparata is here: Santa Reparata The entrance to the Santa Reparata is on the south side of the Cathedral. Once inside, you take the stairs down to Santa Reparata.
| You can spot the entrance to the Reparata here where the line is also forming for the Giotto's Bell Tower. It is not on the same side as the Duomo climb entrance. |
