Catacombs of Priscilla

Catacombs of Priscilla

We weren't allowed to take any photos or videos inside the Catacombs of Priscilla, but I took photos of the exterior and building.  The catacombs are definitely worth a visit!  These catacombs are pretty far away from other catacombs you could choose to visit in Rome, but they were pretty impressive.  We took a taxi to reach them and to also be returned to the center of Rome.  Tickets are only 10 euro, and you have to book a tour to see them, you cannot just wander through them.  My favorite part about the Catacombs of Priscilla is that they claim to have the very oldest painting of Mary and Jesus, dating back to the 3rd century.  Their official website is here:  Catacombs of Priscilla  When scheduling a tour, be sure to choose the language you wish to hear your tour in.  They are closed on Mondays.

At one point while we were underground, our tour guide pointed to a window in the ceiling and said that above us was Vatican land.  I was confused by that, because the Catacombs aren't anywhere near Vatican City.  I think she meant that property throughout Rome is owned by the Vatican, beyond Vatican City itself.

The google maps location is here:  Catacombs of Priscilla
