Windsor Castle in November 2024

Our family visited England in November of 2024 and did a circular road trip around the country.  One of our stops was Windsor Castle.  I was especially excited to visit Windsor because it is the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II, whom I have admired for many years.

Windsor Castle is located at Windsor SL4 1NJ in England.  You cannot park directly at Windsor, but there is parking within walking distance.  We parked at the Romney Lock car park, which is a fifteen minute walk to Windsor Castle.

Windsor is the oldest castle in the world, being completed in 1086.  If you purchase your tickets in advance, you save five pounds.  It costs 31 pounds to visit the castle if you book in advance.  I recommend booking ahead of time so that you can be certain to be able to tour the castle.  It is about a 45 minute drive between Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.  We did both in the same day.  King Charles stays at Windsor Castle a couple nights a week, and you will know if he happens to be in the castle by whether or not the Royal Standard flag is flown over the round tower, or if the Union Flag is flown.

I was mostly excited to visit Windsor Castle because it is the final resting place of Queen Elizabeth II, whom I have admired for many years.  When we were visiting the castle, there was a very long line for Queen Mary's Doll's House.  We decided it wasn't worth the wait, especially since we were trying to make it to Buckingham Palace in time for our visit. We weren't allowed to take photos inside the castle, but we did take photos on the grounds.  The Changing of the Guard usually happens at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Where to eat near Windsor Castle:

Only minutes away from Windsor Castle is an excellent pizza place called Zizzi and it was excellent!  The google maps location is here:  Zizzi in Windsor
